SHILLONG, March 14: The National people’s party (NPP) is all set to announce the list of its candidates for the Parliamentary polls on Friday at New Delhi.
“I am going to New Delhi today (Thursday) to attend the NPP Election Committee and we will announce the candidates for all the seats tomorrow (Friday),” said Chief Minister and NPP National President Conrad Sangma.
Informing that different individuals want to contest the election and the election committee would take a final call on the matter, he however said that Agatha Sangma could very well be the candidate for the Tura seat.
Giving a sneak peek into the poll preparedness of the party, Sangma said, “We know that the party is getting a good response at the grass root level. The party organisation is very upbeat and therefore I am sure that the NPP would win the Tura seat by a very big margin.”
He said that the Government and the party have been working very hard in the past one year and he is sure that the people of the State would like to see the good work of the present Government continue in the days to come
Asked if the recent stalemate over the Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB) will have any bearing on the relationship shared by the NPP and its ally BJP at the Centre, Sangma said, “In coalition, there will be differences and areas of disagreement and CAB was an issue of disagreement and we were very clear that if certain line is crossed, it would lead us to break our ties with them.”
