Shillong, Aug 30: State Urban Affairs Minister, Ampareen Lyngdoh on Thursday released another 20 buses under the Shillong Special Transport Services (SSTS) to add to the existing fleet of public transport services in Shillong at a function held at Don Bosco Square, Laitumkhrah, Shillong.
Speaking at the ceremony as the Chief Guest, Lyngdoh said that the buses will cater the needs of the citizens.
The 24 seater TATA Marcopolo buses are procured under the 13th Finance Commission Award at the cost of Rs 11,38,892 each.
The buses which started to hit the roads from today morning are being operated by the Shillong Municipal Board with the assistance of Synroplang Self Help Group on PPP mode, on 50:50 revenue sharing model.
The primary objective of the SSTS operation is to cater to the needs of the citizens during school hours while for the rest of the day the buses will operate as public transport.
Passengers are requested to insist on tickets while travelling by these buses and ticketless travelers are liable to be fined.
The SSTS buses are also available on hire for dropping office goers on working days and also for social and religious purposes.
