SHILLONG, Feb 09: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday laid foundation stone and inaugurated several development projects worth Rs 4000 crores at Itanagar, Arunachal Pradesh as part of his two-day tour of the North East.
In his address to the people of Arunachal Pradesh, Modi said, “I have repeatedly said that New India will only be able to grow with its full power, when East India, the North East will grow rapidly. Working on the mantra of ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas’, we haven’t let any funds scarcity or willpower come in the way of development of Arunachal and the North East in the last four-and-half years.”
“Arunachal Pradesh is a land of rising sun. It’s a confidence of the country,” he underlined.
He launched DD Arunprabha, a dedicated 24×7 Doordarshan satellite channel for Arunachal Pradesh.
Major connectivity boost
Talking majorly on increasing the connectivity of the state, he informed that in the last two years, around 1000 villages have been connected through roads. “The work of Trans Arunachal highway is also under progress. In an effort to connect all the capitals of North East states, Itanagar has also been connected with the Railways,” he said.
“Tezu airport was built over 50 years but no govt envisioned to connect people of this state with other parts of the country. We expanded the airport by spending around Rs 125 crore,” he added.
He also laid the foundation stone for the construction of Greenfield Airport at Hollongi.
He also laid the foundation stone of Sela Tunnel in Arunachal Pradesh which will provide all-weather connectivity to Tawang Valley for civilians as well as security forces throughout the year.
Major power boost
Stating the BJP-led NDA government is emphasizing on power generation, he informed that 12 hydro electric projects of 110 MW were inaugurated on Saturday which will not only help Arunachal Pradesh but also adjoining states.
He also congratulated the state government for achieving 100 per cent electrification.

“I would like to congratulate the state and the CM that every household here now has electricity connection under ‘Saubhagya’ scheme. What Arunachal Pradesh achieved today will soon be achieved by the entire nation,” he said.
Funds doubled for Arunachal
PM Modi informed that his government has allocated Rs 44,000 crore fund to Arunachal Pradesh, which is double the amount provided by the previous government.
“Previous govts neglected this state for decades but we are here to change this. New India can only be built if North East can be developed well,” he said, adding “today I got the opportunity to inaugurate or lay foundation of projects worth Rs 4,000 crore. Additional projects worth Rs 13,000 crore is in progress in the state.”
