IMPHAL, Feb 20: Manipur police on Wednesday claimed the arrest of one of the masterminds of recent plantation of a powerful IED at the gate of a mission school run by Catholic Educational Society Manipur in Imphal.
Sagolsem Sanatomba alias Sanajaoba, 30 years, of Langathel village in Thoubal district was arrested by a combined team of Imphal West police commandos and troops of 6 Assam Rifles on Tuesday.
Addressing a news conference, Imphal West SP, H Jogeshchandra claimed that Sanajaoba admitted that he along with another cadre of proscribed KCP(PWG) identified as Mani were behind the planting of had planted the powerful IED at the gate of Catholic School, Canchipur in Imphal.
Mention may be made that the IED was found planted at the gate of the school on the morning of February 14. It was later disposed of by experts of the state police bomb detection and disposal squad at the same place safely.
The SP alleged that Sanatomba along with Mani planted the IED at the gate of Catholic School, Canchipur.
Sanatomba was arrested by the combined team of police commandos and 6 Assam Rifles on frisking and checking duty at Takyel Khongbal in Imphal West district Tuesday night, around 9 pm.
One mobile phone handset, two demand letters of KCP(PWG) and one Activa scooter which the cadre used in the transportation of the IED were recovered while arresting him, the SP claimed.
The two other cadres of the group were nabbed in further operation based on the disclosure of Sanatomba.
A .32 pistol along with one magazine loaded with 23 rounds of ammunition, a motorcycle and 29 more demand letters of the group were seized from the two nabbed cadres, the SP added.
IED found at Catholic School’s entrance gate
Mention may be made that an IED was found placed at the southern entrance gate of Catholic School, Canchipur in the morning of February 14. Morning joggers came across a bomb-like object at around 6 am on that day.
The IED planted in a steel tiffin can which was put inside a carton box was later claimed planted by KCP (PWP) while alleging that it was the last warning to the school run by Catholic Educational Society Manipur which the group had earlier imposed a ban.
