TURA, Aug 27: After his defeat in the just concluded by-poll to the South Tura constituency, former South Tura MLA, John Leslee K Sangma has hit upon the use of money power in winning elections.
In a statement made on Monday, Leslee firstly congratulated Conrad on his win and hoped that the CM would now work on his win for the people of Tura.
“I hope the issue of job reservation will soon be cleared along with the problem at NEIGRIHMS with a Garo candidate sorted out as soon as possible,” said Leslee after his defeat.
“I am grateful to the people of Tura who voted for me and took a stand against the CM on the issue of job reservation and issuing of work permits to Bangladeshis. It was a good fight for me and another independent candidate (Kris Kabul Sangma) against the person in the CM’s chair and Dr Mukul Sangma led Congress,” said Leslee.
The former legislator however hit upon the use of money in elections – a trend he says has changed the entire scenario.
“It is sad to realize that a new era is Tura politics has landed where issues of public importance have taken a back seat and money plays the main role in many localities. It is an open secret that huge amounts of money is distributed and people flock to the residences of leaders and workers for such handouts during the general and by-elections,” alleged the former MLA.
On Leslee taking a permanent sabbatical from politics, he said that it was his personal feelings that were expressed but he would consult with his supporters on whether he would stand again in the future or not.
