Guv for inclusion of Meghalaya’s martyrs in history books

SHILLONG, July 02: Meghalaya Governor Ganga Prasad has pitched for the inclusion of the names of the martyrs from the state in the history books.
The Governor urged upon the education department to put the names of the Marty’s from the state like let Capt Clifford Nongrum and Major David Manlun who sacrificed their lives safeguarding the nation.

“I urge the state education department to look into including the names of the martyrs from the state into the history book,” the Governor said soon after attending the function held to commemorate Martyrs’ day here on Monday.
Decades after their death, the parents of the slain heroes who attended the programme were filled with appreciation and pride as their legacy still continues and the heroes are still remembered for their valour.
“Even after so many years people in Shillong still remembers my son and honour him which makes me happy,” said the father of late Capt Clifford Nongrum.
Echoing similar sentiments the father of late Major David Manlun said, “I am honoured to be present here today and I thank everyone for acknowledging the supreme sacrifice and remembering him for his contribution towards the country”.
During the programme prizes were also distributed to the winners of different activities that were held to mark the occasion.
