Foundation Stone for Housing Complex for Urban Poor, Parking Lot laid at Tura

Tura, Jan 27: Meghalaya Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma Friday laid the foundation stone for Housing Complex for Urban Poor and Rehabilitation of Slum Dwellers at Dakopgre, Tura in the presence of Urban Affairs Minister, Ampareen Lyngdoh.
The Housing project is under the Integrated Housing and Slum Development Programme (JNNURM) funded by Ministry of Housing and Poverty Alleviation, Government of India, and the implementing agency being the National Building Construction Corporation Ltd, a government of India Enterprise.
Thereafter Dr Sangma laid the foundation stone for the Redevelopment of the Parking Lot at Akongre, Tura. The fund for the redevelopment of the parking lot is funded by the Ministry of Urban Affairs, government of India and implemented by National Building Construction Corporation Ltd.
Gracing the occasion as the Chief Guest Dr Sangma said the housing complex would provide the basic amenity of shelter to the less privileged. He said that Tura deserves attention as it is the main town of Garo Hills. Thus the two projects would meet the requirements of the people and facilitate development of the urban area.
He also asserted that Tura has immense potentials and various bottlenecks in its development have been identified and addressed to a large extent.
He added that the route from Rongkhon to Dobasipara would be widened and developed for better flow of traffic. He assured of the completion of the projects without time and fund over-run. He appealed to the various stakeholders in the projects to also give due respect to the aesthetic aspect as it would add to the beauty of the town.
The Chief Minister also informed that the government was aggressively following the completion of N.H. 51.
Lyngdoh while delivering her speech expressed happiness that the two projects which had faced various hurdles initially have finally materialized and taken shape. She added that valuable lessons can be learnt from traffic congestion in Shillong and Tura would be ready to tackle any problems relating to traffic in the future. She assured that the projects would be completed within the stipulated time.
