Couple dupes citizens, complaint filed

SHILLONG, Aug 27: The president of the Meghalaya Human Rights Organisation (MHRO) received several complaints on Thursday from people who claim they were cheated by one Shambu Joshi, a resident of Lawsohtun village.
They said that they had paid him Rs one lakh as security deposit to procure a loan of Rs four lakhs from his company, Sai Design India, headquartered at Laban.
The victims include Julia Mary Langstieh of Laban, Martha Marak of Nongrim Hills, Pradip Chettri of RNR Colony and Jitender Singh of Cantonment area, Mawlonghat.
Joshi’s workers had collected sums upto Rs 6 lakh as down payment for purchasing vehicles on loan but the victims claim he has not provided them vehicles till date.
When the victims asked for their money back, Joshi issued a cheque which bounced.
Sensing foul play, they went to his office and were shocked to learn that he had absconded along with his wife, Sheema Marbaniang.
