TURA, Jan 19: In connection with the forthcoming celebration of the 2nd National Voters’ Day (NVD) on January 25 as per the directions of the Election Commission of India (ECI), a briefing on the objective and conduct of the NVD celebration in all the Polling Stations of 46-Phulbari(Gen),47-Rajabala(Gen),48-Selsella,50-North Tura,51-South Tura,52-Rangsakhona,56-Gambegre and 57-Dalu Legislative Constituencies was given to the Booth Level Officers (BLO) by Deputy Commissioner and District Election Officer, Sanjay Goyal, ADC in-charge Election, Electoral Registration Officers and Assistant Electoral Registration Officers.
A short review on the recently concluded Special Summary Revision of Electoral Rolls with reference to January 1, 2012 with the BLO was also conducted after the briefing session.
ADC in-charge Election, HDB Sangma also announced that this year, in appreciation of the efforts and the performance and with a view to motivate the BLOs to work harder for a 100 percent error free electoral rolls, the district has taken an initiative to award the best performing BLO for the year 2012 as a part of the NVD celebration in consultation with the EROs and AEROs.
A cash prize of Rs.2000 and an appreciation certificate were given to BLO of 46 Phulbari, Sengban A.Sangma BLO of 47-Rajabala, Nirmal Ch Hajong, BLO 48-Selsella, Abdul Matin Ahmed , BLO of 50-North Tura, Shankar Saha , BLO of 51-South Tura, Frederick D Sangma , BLO of 52-Rangsakhona, B Sangma BLO of 56-Gambegre, Mohan Singh and BLO of 57-Dalu, Limberth N Sangma who were selected from a total of 261 BLOs.
During the programme, two BLOs Fearditha Ch Momin and Abdul Matin Ahmed also shared their experiences as BLOs.
Goyal addressing the BLOs requested them to carry out their duties with utmost sincerity and responsibility in order to enable young eligible voters to come forward to register their names in the Electoral Rolls and the electors to participate in the democratic electoral process.
Emphasizing that the role of the BLO in the society was that of being an ‘extension of the District Election Branch’ at the grassroot level, he urged the officers to perform their duties with a sense of responsibility as they are under the overall superintendence and supervision of the ECI and a direct link between the ECI and the electors.
Among others who spoke during the session were ADC & ERO 50-North Tura and 51-South Tura, A Ch Marak who lauded the efforts of the BLOs and shared with them the field level experience while conducting the hearing programme of claims and objections in the summary revision of Electoral Rolls. AERO 48-Selsella LAC, C N Sangma also encouraged the officers to perform better in the future.
