SHILLONG, Feb 13: Wasting no time in converting the outcome of the CAB fiasco into political gain, the opposition Congress in Meghalaya has attacked the BJP by stating that the now lapsed Citizenship Amendment Bill 2016 would be revived if the BJP comes back to power.
“If the BJP comes back to power again, they would revive this Bill,” Opposition Chief whip and Congress MLA, PT Sawkmie said on Wednesday.
Announcing that the Congress will take up the issue of CAB in the upcoming elections, Sawkmie observed that it is about time that the people oppose the BJP.
“The Congress will definitely raise the issue of Citizenship Amendment Bill in the elections since the people in the North East need to be conveyed to not to vote for BJP,” said Sawkmie.
He further lauded the efforts of the Opposition parties and different NGOs from the region who stood together and opposed the Bill.
Reiterating the stand of the Congress, Sawkmie said, “The Congress wants the Bill to be scrapped once and for all”.
Pointing out that the law and order situation in the region was disturbed, Sawkmie said that the BJP should apologize to the people of the region.
