SHILLONG, March 17: The All Meghalaya SSA School Teachers’ Association (AMSSASTA) has called off its proposed agitation after assurances of the education minister, Lahkmen Rymbui, of the teachers’ salaries being released soon, in the just concluded Budget Session of the Assembly.

The AMSSASTA had earlier in an executive meeting on March 8, 2019 at the Khasi National Dorbar Hall resolved to issue an ultimatum of 5 days to the state government to release their salaries, failing which it would launch an indefinite school strike throughout the state.

“We decided to withdraw the indefinite school strike after the Education Minister, Lakmen Rymbui has said on 14th March 2019 in the Assembly Session that SSA teachers’ salary is going to be released soon. Based on his promise on the floor of the August House, we hereby call off our indefinite school strike and urge all the SSA teachers to kindly attend their work as usual,” said AMSSASTA general secretary, DS Lamare.

Further, the association also thanked Mayralborn Syiem, the MLA from Nongpoh, for time and again raising concern for the SSA teaching community. It also thanked all its members for their support and cooperation.

“Our thanks also to the education minister and the state government for their effort to heed the critical need of the SSA Teachers who are always finding themselves caught between the devil and the deep sea,” added Lamare.

The association urged the state government to seriously look into the matter of salary payments and to work out a solution for the chronic problem, so that the SSA teachers get their monthly salaries or at least in equal short interval of every two months.
