AMKA Prez to contest Lok Sabha polls from Shillong

SHILLONG, March 15: President of the All Meghalaya Kick-boxing Association (AMKA), Samuel Hashah, on Friday decided to contest the upcoming Lok Sabha elections as an independent candidate from the Shillong parliamentary seat.

Lok Sabha elections for Meghalaya will be held on April 11 under phase 1.

Samuel Hashah, a former state kick boxer, has coached around 200 girls and 300 boys in the field of kick-boxing.

“I have decided to contest the LS polls from Shillong seat as an independent candidate,” Hashah told reporters here at a news conference.

Appealing the people of Khasi and Jaintia Hills region to vote for him, Hashah said he would raise the issue against the Citizenship Amendment Bill and demand for immediate implementation of the Inner Line Permit system to check influx and illegal immigration for protection of the indigenous population.

He said there is need to resolve the inter-state border dispute with Assam and problems faced by the people residing along the international border with Bangladesh.
