TURA, April 03: In yet another case of sexual assault of a minor, a 7-year-old girl from West Garo Hills (WGH) district was raped following which the accused has absconded from the area.
The incident reportedly took place on April 1 with a case being registered on Tuesday at the Tura Women Police Station.
According to reports, the 7-year-old was forcefully taken to a nearby secluded area where she was sexually assaulted by the accused. After the act, he threatened the girl against revealing the incident. However, by the time she was able to speak to her parents about the incident, the accused had fled the village.
“A case has been registered and we are on the lookout for the absconding accused. All other procedures have been followed and a medical done on the child,” confirmed the WGH SP, Dr MGR Kumar.
Following the incident, the All Meghalaya Minority Students Union (AMMSU) has condemned the incident while also deciding to take out a rally to spread awareness of such crimes against women.
“We want the arrest of the accused and will be writing a complaint to the SP and DC of WGH. This is barbaric to say the least and the guilty person has to be caught and punished for what he did to the 7-year-old child,” said president of AMMSU, Nur Islam.
The NGO will decide a date for the rally within this week.
