Shillong, May 29: The two day orientation workshop for members of Child Welfare Committee (CWC), Juvenile Justice Board (JJB), Special Juvenile Police Unit (SJPU), Print & Electronic Media on Integrated Child Protection Scheme (ICPS) culminated Wednesday at the Don Bosco Youth Centre, Shillong where the Inspector General, CID, VR Rana was the Chief Guest. Also present were the Assistant Director, Social Welfare and Fr. Celia, Director, Don Bosco Youth Centre.

In his valedictory speech, Rana said that from his experience as a police official, he had come across many cases of child rights violations. But in recent times, the most disturbing and dangerous trend in the State of Meghalaya is that children fall victim to rape and sexual abuse which is of great concern to the society as a whole. He expressed hoped that the workshop has been very constructive in curtailing this danger and also hoped that it has benefitted the CWCs, JJB, SJPU and print and electronic media in their mission to safeguard and protect the children and their rights. He also informed the gathering that the police website is in place for the public to inform of any illegal activity and to lodge their complaints.
Mentionably, ICPS is a newly launched Centrally-sponsored scheme in collaboration with the State Government and Civil Society which aims to provide safe and secure environment for children and to set up a mechanism to strengthen child welfare system. The objective of the scheme is to build capacity and to coordinate a network between government and non government organizations to identify and assist, in whatever the case may be, for the welfare of the child.
Later, certificates of participation were also distributed by the Chief Guest and Fr Celia at the function.
