Foreigners Act, Tenancy Law on avail to curb influx

Meghalaya High Court finally ‘admits’ petition challenging Governor’s directive

SHILLONG, July 03: With new Governor announced for Meghalaya, it seems tables have finally turned for the CMJ University. In a strange twist to the role of Court in CMJ University controversy, the Meghalaya High Court has ‘admitted’ the petition filed by Chandra Mohan Jha (CMJ) Foundation challenging the recommendation of the outgoing Governor RS Mooshahary for “dissolution” of the Varsity.

The roads to nowhere in Garo Hills

TURA, July 04: The site of any of the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) roads within the Garo Hills region, barring a miniscule few, would leave even the most hardened of hearts bleeding. The PMGSY defines its real motive for the development of roads as ‘all weather roads’, meant to help simplify the transport needs of the people of different states. The north-eastern region has been given a special preference in allotment, but the reality of the region makes one gaze in disbelief at the state of affairs.

KSU demands halt of “Aadhaar” implementation in Meghalaya

SHILLONG, July 03: The KSU has demanded that the Meghalaya government must put on hold the implementation of the “Aadhaar” - a Unique Identification Number (UIN) scheme in the state and first take the opinions of the stakeholders and also put in place a mechanism for controlling influx into the state.
Led by its president Daniel Khyirem a delegation of the KSU met Meghalaya Home Minister Roshan Warjri on Wednesday and put the demand forward. According to the KSU leader the Home Minister has agreed to withhold the implementation of the UIN after inquiring about it from concerned authority as she is not aware of it.
