SHILLONG, July 23: Meghalaya Legislative Assembly Speaker AT Monday on Tuesday launched the Golden Jubilee celebrations of Teaching Science of the Shillong College here.
Speaking on the occasion, Mondal said Science education is of the important education and with the innovation of the new technologies it has becoming more and more important.

ANVC(B) pleads for giving ‘Peace’ a chance

Shillong, July 22: The ANVC(B) has appealed to all citizens of the state to ensure peace in Meghalaya.
“The situation in Garo Hills is deteriorating day by day and if immediate constructive steps are not taken to bridge up the gap than things are sure to be flung far worse in a few months time,” ANVC(B) Chairman Rimpu N Marak said in a press communiqué here.

Sack of potatoes causes concern in Tura

Tura, July 22: A sack of potatoes originating from the markets of Mankachar in Assam caused an alarm when it reached the town of Tura due to its contents. The incident happened on Friday in the village of Babadam, about 20 kms from the town of Tura, West Garo Hills.
The A’chik Students Welfare Association (ASWA), which was informed about the problem at hand, rushed to the spot and picked up the bag to ensure the contents did not harm anyone.

Govt to constitute ‘Delimitation Commission’

SHILLONG, July 22: Meghalaya government has proposed to set up a ‘delimitation commission’ to examine the controversy over the proposed new delimitation of constituencies in the three Autonomous District Councils (ADCs) in state.
Election to the three Councils is slated for next year. 
“The government has decided to recommend constitution of a Delimitation Commission to oversee into proposed implementation of the delimitation of constituencies in the state,” sources informed here.

Introduce gardening as a school course for environment's sake

SHILLONG, July 22: A school student from Hyderabad has come up with a refreshing proposal at an National conference on environment suggesting – educational Institutions must introduce Gardening as a subject in schools, to bring students closer towards environment protection and care.
The proposal was made by Nidhi, a student from Vijay Residential School (VRS), Hyderabad, during the just concluded National Conference on Environment dubbed PEAS for schools students from across India here at the North Eastern Hill University (NEHU) Convention centre.

Shillong Run 2013 to raise funds for Specially – abled

SHILLONG, July 22: The Agency for Sustainable Development (AfSDI) is all set to organize the third “Shillong Run – 2013”, a fund raising event as well as an initiative for creating awareness on the need to promote the welfare of the specially – abled and vulnerable sections of the society particularly those residing in remote rural areas of the state.
Addressing a press conference here on Monday, AfSDI Director Rev AT Sohtun said, “This year, the third Shillong Run will be held on August 3.”
