SHILLONG, April 06: The Congress led MUA – II government has decided to field Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) legislator Sanbor Shullai as its candidate for the Deputy Speaker’s post in the 9th Meghalaya Legislative Assembly. Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma underlined that he would speak to all political parties to garner their support for Shullai and Congress leader Wansuk Syiem as the Rajya Sabha MP candidate.

This was in reference to the ongoing rebellion in the Congress, which has put Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi under extreme pressure. Though Digvijay tried his level best to sort out the differences, but the internal bickering continues.
SHILLONG, April 07: The Social Organization of Meghalaya against Land Alienation (SOMALA) has criticized the new Meghalaya Industrial and Investment Promotion Policy 2012, saying it will be ‘more injurious to the cause of the indigenous tribal people’.
SOMALA convener Wilster Anthony said, “It will be more injurious due to the fact that the question arises as to how the government will grant lease to the investors when it has no land of its own as the land belong to the people.”
Shillong, April 06: The opposition parties in state under the banner of the Meghalaya People’s Forum (MPF) have decided not to put up any candidate for the upcoming bye-election to the Rajya Sabha as well as for Meghalaya Deputy Speaker’s post.
The reason thereof is due to the unavailability of candidates for the two elections, MPF Secretary and UDP working president, Paul Lyngdoh, told reporters here.
The MPF also decided to meet the Meghalaya Speaker, AT Mondal to demand for the immediate appointment of the Leader of Opposition (LO).
Guwahati, April 06: AICC incharge for Assam Digvijay Singh has lashed out at BJP for projecting and comparing Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi with Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh.
Accordingly to Digvijay Singh there cannot be any comparison between Modi and Dr. Singh. Digvijay Singh believes that if a comparison has to be made it should be between Modi and other Congress Chief Ministers.
