Special Scholarship for all Science Students soon: Mukul

SHILLONG, July 24: Meghalaya Chief Minister, Dr Mukul Sangma, Wednesday announced that his government will soon introduce ‘Special Scholarship’ for all the science students in the State.
Speaking at the inaugural session of the two day International Seminar on ‘Attracting Best Talents in Basic Science’, organized by Shillong College in the college premises to mark the Golden Jubilee of Teaching Science in Shillong College, Dr Sangma said that this will spark up the scientific temper among the students and it will motivate students to look at Science not as a phobia but as a branch of study which will benefit them in many ways particularly in regulating their day to day lives.

Army Recruitment Rally: 58 arrested with fake documents

SHILLONG, July 24: As many as fifty-eight candidates at the ongoing recruitment rally of Army were on Wednesday arrested by city police for producing fake documents.
“We have arrested 58 candidates for producing fake domicile certificates at the recruitment rally,” SP (City) Vivek Syiem said here.

4 GNLA over ground workers nabbed, grenade lobbed at checkpoint

Tura, July 23: In a major breakthrough for the West Garo Hills Police, four over ground GNLA workers were caught in operations on Monday that lasted throughout the day. The operations which began at about 12 pm in the town of Tura, ended late at night in the village of Dudaret in the Selsella region with cross firing between the security forces and the militants.

SHILLONG, July 23: If your Non Banking Financial Company (NBFC) is promising an astounding return on your investment, think twice before investing, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has warned.
After the Sharda group was busted, there has been extreme focus on the functioning on NBFCs in the country and Meghalaya is no exception.
In Meghalaya, three NBFCs against whom complaints have been registered in the State capital do not fall under the RBI’s regulation. What it means is that the deposit in these NBFCs are “neither insured nor guaranteed.”

New Dawki Bridge to be completed under EPC mode

HSPDP demands ‘Egyptian style revolution’ to resolve interstate boundary dispute

SHILLONG, July 23: Condemning the failure of the state government to act on the recent incident at Sabuda, Hill State People’s Democratic Party (HSPDP) Tuesday termed it as a “political conspiracy” between the two Congress-led Assam and Meghalaya governments even as it called for the need of a strong people’s movement, similar to ‘Egyptian style revolution’, to force the government to end the long pending boundary dispute.

TGU to begin courses in Meghalaya, invest Rs 1000 cr

SHILLONG, July 23: Promoting higher education, the Techno Global University (TGU) is all set to start its academic session in Meghalaya even as it is planning to invest Rs 1000 for infrastructural development.
“With the commencing of courses, Meghalaya will have its second engineering institute and this will go a long way in promoting higher education in the state,” TGU National Manager Prasanta Gangopadhyay said while addressing a press conference here on Tuesday.
