Resubelpara, Dec 27: One day after the celebration of Christmas, the town of Dainadubi in North Garo Hills celebrated with the presentation of a Song Kristan dance and song festival. The colourful festival celebrated the various dance and song forms of the Garo Hills region and was attended by more than 5000 people who gathered in the Nogolpara Club field to witness the various artists in action.
SHILLONG, Dec 23: Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma Monday said that “a weak North East would mean a weak India” and said new policies are required to take the region forward towards development.
The Chief Minister inaugurating MindRocks, a youth summit, said that a lot of programmes and policies were designed for the North East (NE) “without enough knowledge” and understanding of the region and its people’s aspirations.
“Most of the policies and programmes designed for the region were framed without enough knowledge and understanding of the region,” he said.
SHILLONG, Dec 23: The twelve – hour HNLC bandh on Monday did not evoke much response from the public as most of the shopping establishments were open especially in Khyndailad (Police Bazaar), Laitumkhrah and other shopping centers in Shillong. Unsurprisingly, the government offices saw thin attendance. Vehicles, both private and local taxis, were also seen plying on the roads, though it was little thinner than the usual.
New Delhi, Dec 22 (IANS): Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Arvind Kejriwal is set to meet Lt. Governor Najeeb Jung here Monday amid clear signs that his party is preparing to take power in Delhi with Congress support.
After five days of a virtual referendum on whether or not AAP should form a minority government, there were enough indications - but no announcement - that the one-year-old AAP was ready for the plunge.
New Delhi, Dec 23 (IANS): AAP founder leader Arvind Kejriwal was Monday set to be Delhi's Chief Minister after announcing that his party will form a government with Congress backing to end a fortnight-long deadlock.
Kejriwal, 45, met Lt Governor Najeeb Jung and staked his claim to assume office. Without specifying a date, he said he and his ministers would take oath at the sprawling Ramlila Maidan in the heart of Delhi.
SHILLONG, Dec 22: Call it the Christmas gift or listening to people’s cries or effect of Christmas charm, but the Meghalaya government has finally softened its stand and decided to call the pro - Inner Line Permit (ILP) groups for dialogue to resolve the long standoff between the two parties over the issue of ILP implementation in state.
The two sides will meet on January 15 next and delve into the core issue of influx and illegal immigration and find a solution.
1. The VIP culture should be stopped in Delhi. No MLA, minister or Delhi official will use a red beacon on their cars. Neither will they live in big bungalows nor take any special security.
2. Passing of the Janlokpal Bill, the same version for which Anna Hazare held fasts.
3. People will take decision directly in 'mohalla sabhas', which will be held in every locality and colony.
