MPCC hired Pawan Hans chopper to ferry Mukul in GH

Shillong, April 03: The Election Commission has clarified that the Pawan Hans helicopter being used by Meghalaya Chief Minister Dr Mukul M Sangma has been requisitioned by the Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC), thereby not affecting the state exchequer.
Tura Lok Sabha parliamentary seat Returning Officer Pravin Bakshi informed the Meghalaya Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Prashant Naik that the Pawan Hans Limited Dauphin N3 helicopter used by Dr Sangma for campaigning in Garo Hills (GH) was de-hired after taking NOC from concerned authority of Meghalaya government and hired by MPCC and was utilized on March 25, 27, 28, 29 30, and April 1, 2, and 3.

Construction company Manager abducted by unidentified miscreants

Tura, April 03: In another case of a huge security lapse within a fledgling construction company which has been given the contract to build the upcoming Inter State Bus Terminus in Tura had a huge setback. The manager of the company was kidnapped late Wednesday night from his makeshift house at Chasingre. Surprisingly, the whole incident took place right under the nose of four security guards, who heard nothing about the incident till the manager was taken.
One Rakesh Pandey of Rajasthan was the manager of the construction site. According to sources, two people on bikes came to his house armed with two 9mm pistols came to the company’s office premises and knocked on the door of the manager’s quarter at about 12:10 am on Thursday morning. When he opened the door, the two overpowered him and whisked him away.

TURA, April 02: The various underground groups have formed a new outfit christened ‘A’chik Revolutionary Front (ARF)’ on Tuesday to raise voice of Garo People against prevailing menace unleashed by various militant groups in the name of separate Garo State and to initiate speedy peace-settlement in accordance with yearning of separate Garo State for the Garos.

Public helicopters cannot be used by political parties under MCC

SHILLONG, April 02: State Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Prashant Naik Wednesday said the provisions in the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) prohibits the use of public helicopters by political parties even as he ruled out any violation against MCC in the appointment process to vacant posts in the Agriculture department of the State government.
“The department is waiting for reports from the Returning Officers with regards to alleged use of public helicopters by political parties,” Naik told reporters here.

Israeli poet strikes poetic sentiments of Shillong

SHILLONG, April 03: Dr Diti Ronen, famed poet from Israel, enthralled the audience with a reading of her poems at the Asian Confluence Centre on Wednesday. An “Evening of Poems” organized by the centre in collaboration with Shillong Poetry Society also featured a large number of local poets who read out their poetry.
Born in Tel Aviv, Israel, Diti is also a theatre researcher besides being a poet. She teaches cultural policy and arts management in The Hebrew University of Jerusalem and advises on these subjects to Governmental offices, municipalities, arts funding organizations and to cultural and artistic institutions. Ronen studied theatre in Tel Aviv University and received her PhD degree on her theory of the acting selves. She is deeply involved in the Israeli cultural scene.

Wine store owner shot by suspected ANVC(B) militants

WILLIAMNAGAR, April 02: One wine store owner was shot in the leg one day after a grenade was thrown at another in the town of Williamnagar in East Garo Hills (EGH) on Wednesday. The wine store owner, identified as Sunil Sangma, was shot in the leg by two suspected A’chik National Volunteers Council – Breakaway (ANVC-B) militants at about 1:30 pm at the main market.
Interestingly, the militants did not use the name of ANVC (B) to serve demand notes, but used the names of newer groups like ANLA, ATF and the newly formed Matchadu Matchabet!

ANLA militant killed by mob

Baghmara, April 02: In another case of public ire against the growing wrath of militancy in the region, one cadre from the A’chik National Liberation Army (ANLA) was killed after he and his aide shot at three people in the leg in the crowded Jadi Market at about 8:30 am on Wednesday morning.
The incident happened in the town of Jadigittim, about 35 kms from the town of Baghmara, headquarter of South Garo Hills, during the weekly bazaar.
