SHILLONG, Feb 22: The state government has directed the Meghalaya Energy Corporation Limited (MeECL) to do away with load-shedding from February 23 to 27 because of the district councils’ election.
The government has also give direction to the district administrations to have alternatives source of lighting such as solar lanterns to ensure that electioneering process during the district council polls are not interrupted especially in the remote rural areas ‘with no electricity supply’.

SHILLONG, Feb 21: Meghalaya government has directed the education department to terminate the services of all the Lower Primary (L.P.) school teachers whose appointments were found tainted.
“The Law department has directed the Education department to terminate the services of over 246 lower primary schoolteachers who were appointed in 2010,” official sources informed here on Friday.
Sources said that the education department is already in the process of preparing to issue termination notices to the 246 tainted teachers.

SHILLONG, Feb 22: To ensure ‘fair’ and ‘error free’ conduct of the upcoming district council elections in the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) and Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC) slated to be held on February 24, over 5900 polling officers and 5200 police personnel have been deputed in the six Khasi – Jaintia Hills districts.

SHILLONG, Feb 21: The North East Students Organization (NESO) has sought Central nod to include the North East in the syllabus of schools under all State Boards and Central Boards besides demanding enactment of a stringent law against racial discrimination.
