Cement Cos in Jaintia Hills mining without JHADC permission: RTI

SHILLONG, June 30: Cement companies operating in the limestone-rich areas of Jaintia hills region of Meghalaya have allegedly failed to register and obtain permission from the Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC) for mining activities and extracting of limestone in the region which is a violation of sixth schedule, an RTI finding revealed.
It further stated that due to this, the JHADC is losing crores of revenue which was supposed to enter its exchequer.

Assam flood worsens, 70,000 people affected

GUWAHATI, June 30: Flood situation in Assam took a serious turn on Sunday as flood waters submerged 43 more villages in Dhemaji, Jorhat and Sivsagar districts and also some parts in Kaziranga National Park (KNP), officials said.
More than 70,000 people of 168 villages in seven districts were affected so far in the first wave of flood in the state.
On Sunday, flood waters submerged 17 villages of Dhemaji district, 15 in Majuli river island and one in Sivsagar district.
Flood waters also entered some parts in KNP.

SHILLONG June29: Citizens of the “Rock Capital” Shillong on Saturday witnessed yet another international rock band hailing from Los Angeles- Hoobastank entertain the 10,000 plus crowd at the 5th Polo Ground despite the rain and technical glitches. While the excitement and enthusiasm built before the concert was right on top of any graph, but many felt dejected once it was over.

They have been known to ensure that Tura does not become the dumping ground of waste as well ensuring a clear water habitat. MeECL wants Govt to be guarantor for Rs 1400 crore loan

SHILLONG, June 28: Meghalaya Cabinet has asked the Meghalaya Energy Corporation Limited (MeECL) to present a Power Point Presentation (PPT) to its request of wanting the state government to stand guarantor up to Rs 1400 crore loan for building infrastructure and other projects the corporation will be undertaking.
