29 students injured in stampede, 4 in ICU

SHILLONG, April 08: In what can be termed as a bizarre incident where a merry lunch time turned into a nightmare, 29 students of a school were on Monday injured when they fell down from the staircase of the school building located in the first floor.
The insane incident happened at St Margaret’s Higher Secondary School, Shillong when students of Class II, III and IV came out from their class rooms during the lunch break.

MUA -II firm in enforcing law: Mukul

SHILLONG, April 07: Meghalaya Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma has avowed that the MUA -II government is firm in enforcing the law of the land, and action as per law will be taken against those who are involved in the vandalism that left four people injured and some shops vandalized in Laitumkhrah during the recent KSU rally.

Dr Roy tells Mukul to avoid blame – game

Shillong, April 08: Former Chief Minister and UDP Chief Dr Donkupar Roy on Monday cautioned the incumbent Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma from playing the ‘blame-game’ and desist from ‘passing the buck’.
Dr Roy told the CM to avoid blaming the MPA government, which was in power briefly in 2008, over the delay in construction of Ganol Hydel Power project.

SOMALA says new Meghalaya Industrial Policy is ‘injurious to tribals’

SHILLONG, April 07: The Social Organization of Meghalaya against Land Alienation (SOMALA) has criticized the new Meghalaya Industrial and Investment Promotion Policy 2012, saying it will be ‘more injurious to the cause of the indigenous tribal people’.
SOMALA convener Wilster Anthony said, “It will be more injurious due to the fact that the question arises as to how the government will grant lease to the investors when it has no land of its own as the land belong to the people.”
