SHILLONG, June 07: Shillong is an ideal place for institutions driven towards capacity building, opined Union HRD Minister Dr. M.M. Pallam Raju during his maiden visit after holding the HRD portfolio since its inception at IIM Shillong on Friday, while urging students to become the objective repository that is needed by Government and planners.
Interacting with the participants at IIM, Dr. Raju said, “You are in such a lovely environment that you can focus and utilize the facilities of the campus to the best of your capabilities. It is an attractive campus to invite faculty, retain faculty, invite visiting professors, invite distinguishes guest lecturers.”
SHILLONG, June 06: Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) and Federation of Khasi – Jaintia and Garo People (FKJGP) on Thursday demanded the state government to consider the recommendation of the High Level Committee on Influx (HLCI) on implementation of the Inner Line Permit (ILP) to keep “doubtful citizens” out of the state.
Shillong, June 06 (PTI): Wansuk Myrthong, woman constable from Meghalaya, would get double promotion for becoming the first tribal Khasi woman to scale Mt Everest.
The woman constable was a member of the first North-East India Everest Expedition team, which scaled the peak recently.
“We propose to reward her appropriately for this feat,” Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma said.
Resubelpara, June 05: Militancy reared its head once again in the Garo Hills, with a new case of arson committed by suspected Garo Nationla Liberation Army (GNLA) militants. The incident happened on the National Highway 51 about 10 kms after Bajengdoba at about 7:40 am in the morning. The incident took place in an area known as Dengipa in the North Garo Hills district.
The arson of the Meghalaya Transport Corporation (MTC) bus, bearing registration no. ML-03-0197 which was en route to Shillong from Tura, was stopped by armed militants who suddenly entered from the side road beside the highway. At gunpoint they asked the passengers and the driver to get off the bus before launching a grenade inside the bus. The bus quickly burst into flames and after overseeing their works, they quickly left the spot.
SHILLONG, June 06: In a breather for aggrieved students of the CMJ University, the Director of Higher and Technical Education (DHTE) on Thursday issued an order saying that the department will examine the feasibility of accommodating the students of the University, which has been shutdown, in other institutions.
SHILLONG, June 05: Meghalaya Governor Ranjit Shekhar Mooshahary on Wednesday suggested that the newly established Meghalaya High Court must ensure a reasonable time frame for adjournment of cases as it will ensure speedy justice delivery system and make justice affordable to the poor.
