Patna, June 16 (IANS): Bihar's ruling Janata Dal-United (JD-U) ended its 17-year-old alliance with the BJP Sunday after days of simmering tensions, marking a major split in the country's main opposition grouping.
In a bitter end to weeks of feuding, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar told Governor D.Y. Patil to sack all the 11 BJP ministers in his government for not working and vowed to prove his majority in the assembly Wednesday.

Tura, June 16: While crimes against women have been on the rise and have been making headlines every day, a new network of men and women have been seeking to take advantage of the situation and trying to extort money from men of wealth. While the recent reported cases seem to have been genuine cases of rape or molestation, a new story has emerged of women trying to net men and take them to the cleaners by socially meeting them and then striking a relationship with them. After that it is generally blackmail.

Banjoplang - A shining star among the specially abled

Bridge collapses near Phulbari, 7 injured

TURA, June 16: A bridge under construction over the last year suddenly collapsed leaving a trail of questions for the Phulbari PWD Number II and the people who were behind the construction. The incident happened in a place called Boldakgre about 18 kms from the town of Phulbari in the West Garo Hills district. Locals and NGOs within the area have blamed the lack of planning by the department as well as the use of sub standard products and mixtures for the accident.

Bangladeshis haul off with Meghalaya’s harvest along international border

While the fight has been on to get their dues, the citizens along the border have complained of something that is even more acute – their work being stolen by neighbors from across the border.
