NCP files writ petition against state government |

SHILLONG, Sept. 06:
In view of the delay by the District Council Affairs (DCA) of the state government on approving the Executive Committee (EC) of the GHADC, on Monday a writ petition was filed by NCP-led GHUPA new elected leader of the EC, RD Marak, along with four defected Congress MDCs - Boston Marak, S. Marak, P. Marak and R. Rabha at the Shillong Bench of the Gauhati High Court.
The NCP party leader also the Leader of Opposition of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly, Conrad Sangma, told the media: "A hearing will also be scheduled on Tuesday on the matter." In the matter of the petition filed, the governor was the first one to be informed."

CM to kick off NHFDC awareness prog today

SHILLONG, Sept. 06:
In a first of its kind, the government sponsored Teachers’ Day celebrations in the state on Monday saw deficit school teachers walk out of the auditorium of U Soso Tham Auditorium against the presence of Education Minister, Ampareen Lyngdoh.
The deficit school teachers were under the banner of the Khasi Jaintia Deficit School Teachers Association (KJDSTA) and the Garo Hills Deficit School Teachers and Employees Association (GHDSTEA).

HDR hesitates over NCP EC in GHADC |

SHILLONG, Sept. 06:
District Council Affairs Minister, HDR Lyngdoh, on Monday said that the decision of forming a new executive council in the GHADC would not be made instantly but would need to be examined.
"The resolution of staking claim by the Nationalist Congress Party on forming a new executive committee (EC) in the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) would not be given instantly as demanded but needs to be examined," said Lyngdoh.

Lafarge bags 7 NE Metalliferous Mine Safety Award |

SHILLONG, Sept. 06:
Lafarge Umiam Mining Pvt. Ltd (LUMPL), a fully owned subsidiary of Lafarge Surma Cement Ltd, Bangladesh, bagged seven awards on the final day function of the 7th North East Metalliferous Mine Safety Week which was held recently.
LUMPL was adjudged the best in safety practices for opencast working, use of PPE and welfare amenities, explosive handling and accident prevention records.
The mining company was awarded second prize in publicity and propaganda and condition of mining machinery. LUMPL ranked first for its overall performance.
