DHAKA, Feb. 25 (MIPR): Chief Minister Dr. DD Lapang, accompanied by Deputy Chief Minister Bindo M. Lanong, called on Bangladesh Premier Shiekh Hasina, and submitted a memorandum seeking her intervention on the various aspects of promoting trade and commerce between Bangladesh and Meghalaya with stress on connectivity in the form of roads, riverine and air between Dhaka / Sylhet and Shillong and bus services from strategic areas in Garo Hills to Bangladesh as well as the Shillong – Sylhet route.
He also informed her that daily flights have begun operating in the Delhi – Kolkata – Shillong sector and that the Shillong airport was in the process of being upgraded and expanded.
The Chief Minister also voiced concern over the recent firing incident at Muktapur asking her to mitigate the pathetic plight of the affected villagers.
Meanwhile, a delegation of the Khasi Students’ Union of Bangladesh led by its president, Bimol Lyngdoh, on Thursday called on Dr Lapang in Dhaka, expressing their desire to have exchange cultural programmes with the Khasis of Meghalaya.
