Shillong, Feb. 06:
The Shillong Press Club on Saturday elected its new office bearers. Present incumbent David Laitphlang, was re-elected president in close contest, receiving 86 votes while opponent John Thabah, received 80 votes.
167 members of the Shillong Press Club cast their votes on Saturday, out of a total of 216 members. The election was conducted by the Directorate of Information and Public Relations (DIPR).
Results of the election were announced at around 8 pm. The office bearers elected include Badap Lyngdoh as vice president, Powell Sohkhlet as general secretary, Refulgent Kharnaior as joint secretary, Apporlet Shabong as organising secretary and Francis Khongwir as treasurer. Executive members include Rajoo Sharma, Meban Rynjah, Geffrey Kharkongor and Marcus Lyngdoh. The annual general meeting was also held prior to the election.
Laitphlang, while speaking to MEGHALAYA TIMES, said that in his new term as president, he would strive to bring the press fraternity together and work towards its welfare.
