Two escaped UTPs recaptured |

Staff Reporter SHILLONG, Feb.06: The state police has informed that two of the three under trial prisoners (UTPs) who recently escaped from police custody in Mairang were recaptured from outside Shillong district jail premises here on Saturday. Superintendent of Police (City) Claudia Lyngwa, said that jail guards spotted the escapees, Hambreas Lyngdoh Nonglait and Ramesh Marngar, loitering outside the jail premises. “Both the escapees have been handed over to the police and we are enquiring into the whereabouts of the other escaped UTP, Demand Marwein,” she said. On February 1 last, three of seven UTPs had made good their escape from the court premises of the Sub-Divisional Officer, Mairang Civil Sub-Division in West Khasi Hills. The escaped prisoners were taken to Mairang from Shillong District jail along with four other prisoners. Earlier, the state government had ordered a magisterial inquiry into the escape.
