CM graces finals of football tourney

SHILLONG, June 11: Meghalaya Chief Minister, Dr. Mukul Sangma on Saturday attended the final of the 1st Umkor Urksew Pynursla (UUP) Invitational Football Tournament, 2016 where  Eastern Pirates, Pohkseh, Shillong thrashed PHE, Pynursla Sub-Division in a tie-breaker held at Urksew Football Stadium, Pynursla. The tournament was organised by UUP Sports Club wherein 16 teams from various parts of State took part in the tournament.

Nangkiew Irat slot two past Shillong Lajong FC

SHILLONG, June 07: Nangkiew Irat registered a 2-1 win over Shillong Lajong FC on Tuesday at Polo ground Shillong.
This is the first match that the Lajong juniors have lost from the four matches played in the U-18 Shillong Premier League.
Nangkiew Irat scored an early goal to take the lead in the match. H Rangslang found the back of the net in the 3rd minute.

40th Meghalaya State Chess Championship concludes

SHILLONG, June 07: The 40th Meghalaya State Chess Championship 2016 came to an end on Saturday last at Lama Villa Community Hall in Shillong.
The championship saw the participation of players from all over the state comprising those from East Khasi Hills, Garo Hills, West Khasi Hills, Jaintia Hills and Ri Bhoi.

If politicians can run the country, they can run sport bodies: Thakur

Shillong, June 01 (IANS): Board of Cricket for Control of India (BCCI) President Anurag Thakur asserted on Wednesday that politicians have the ability to head various national sports bodies in the country.
The 41-year-old three-time Lok Sabha member from Hamripur in Himachal Pradesh was responding to a journalist's call for his comment on politicians heading various sports bodies in India.

Lajong’s Samuel Lalmuanpuia is the youngest goal scorer in I-League history

SHILLONG, May 24: Shillong Lajong’s young striker from the Club Academy, Samuela Lalmuanpuia, who made his debut in the recently-concluded I-League season has become the youngest goal scorer in the history of the I-League.
At Lajong, Samuela has won the Shillong Premier League Super Division in 2014, U-19 Shillong Premier League in July 2015 and the Shillong Premier League Super Division in November 2015.
