SHILLONG, May 01: In a bid to promote football as a sport in the Northeastern region, the Assam Rifles organized the CAPF Under-19 Talent hunt football tournament both for boys and girls, which began at JN stadium, Shillong on Monday.
Speaking at the inaugural ceremony, the Governor of Meghalaya Banwarilal Purohit said that the aim of organising the talent hunt is to popularize the game of football and develop both sporting skills and fitness in the game in Meghalaya, NE region and entire India. He also said that the tournament is also a prelude to the FIFA Under-17 world cup 2017 which will be hosted in India later in October.
SHILLONG, April 30: Aizawl FC may have played out a draw against Shillong Lajong FC on Sunday evening but it created history by becoming the first club from the north-east to win the I-League title. At the end of 90-minute play, the scoreline read 1-1 at the JN Stadium here with both teams having played out a blinder of a season finale to the Hero I-League 2016-17.
The tournament’s highest scorer Lajong’s Aser Dipanda Dicka scored a brilliant opener in only the ninth minute in front of more than 23,000 fans, but this was reversed by Aizwal through substitute William Lalnunfela in the 67th, which ensured that the Mizoram team lifted their maiden I-League title.
SHILLONG, April 30: The first match of the Assam Rifles CAPF Under-19 Football Talent Hunt Tournament for Meghalaya will be held on Monday at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Polo.
The opening clash will be in the boys’ division between KV Happy Valley and Assam Rifles Public School at 2:15pm.
Assam Rifles is organising the state-level tournaments in Meghalaya, Manipur, Mizoram and Nagaland. The nationwide competition, dubbed ‘Oorja’, is an initiative of the Union Ministry of Home Affairs to promote football in the entire country ahead of the FIFA Under-17 Football World Cup, which will be hosted by India for the first time later this year.
SHILLONG, April 23: Shillong Lajong earned a point in the last away game of the season versus Mumbai FC at the Cooperage Ground in Mumbai on Sunday. The match ended 1-1.
Isaac Vanmalsawma was adjudged the Hero of the Match for his incredible display in the game.
Mumbai FC kicked off the match in a brilliant fashion when they took the lead in the 2nd minute courtesy a thumping shot from the right by Victorino. Credit to the host whose early aggressive attack gave them an early lead.
SHILLONG, April 19: The ‘Lajong Amazing North East Diaries’ have proven to be a resounding success with the public at large, racking up over 1 million views over the 23 episodes broadcast so far on the club’s Facebook page alone.
Shillong Lajong FC is overwhelmed by the response of the fans to the episodes on Mizoram, Manipur, Meghalaya, Nagaland and Assam. The total number of views as of April 18, 2017 has touched 10,67,000 while there were 43,180 likes.
