Taekwondo for fitness of mind and body

TURA, July 10: Enthusiasts of Taekwondo and experts from Garo Hills have called for the sport to be made more accessible to the youth by encouraging it as a step for all round development of the mind and body.
The call comes in the wake of a brilliant performance by boys and girls of the Taekwondo Association of Garo Hills in the recently concluded international event in Bhutan. Over a dozen local boys and girls from the Garo Hills Taekwondo Association brought fame for the region at the Bhutan event bagging several gold and silver medals.

Lajong beats Malki in U18 Shillong Premier League

SHILLONG, June 16: Malki went down to Shillong Lajong juniors on Thursday at the JN stadium in the U18 Shillong Premier League bringing an end to the campaign of both teams in the tournament. Lajong juniors are now on 13 points in second position but will have to wait one more day as Nangkiew Irat are due to play their last game on Friday. If Nangkiew wins their last match, they will also be on 13 points and will automatically advance to the finals with the head to head advantage.

Futsal tournament kicks off in Baghmara

TURA, June 15: The three day Baghmara Futsal Challenge Cup kicked off on Tuesday at Baghmara playground with an aim to popularise 5-A-side football in Garo Hills.
The tournament conceptualized by ICFAI University Meghalaya was held for the first time in Tura last year.
After successfully launching the format of the game at Tura, the university in collaboration with Baghmara Sports Association and District Sports Office is organizing the tournament.

MBA to conduct basketball coaching camp

SHILLONG, June 13: The Meghalaya Basketball Association (MBA) in collaboration with the Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs will be conducting a basketball coaching camp at Polo Basketball Court, J.N. Complex from June 16, 2016.
This coaching camp is for 2 categories which include under 14 years and the youth level of under 17 years for both boys and girls.

Successful SSLC, HSSLC students felicitated via cricket

SHILLONG, June 12: The Cherangre Youth Socio-Cultural Club, Tura in association with the Prime Alternative organised a Cricket Final Tournament cum Felicitation program for the successful students who recently cleared SSLC and HSSLC examination on Saturday at Cherengre Field, Tura.
Combine and Ambeng Matgrik were the teams who played in the final match, with Combine emerging winner and Ambeng matgrik taking the Runner up place.
