SHILLONG, July 13: Amity Tongper, a prominent footballer from Jaintia Hills region, has successfully completed the Netaji Subhas National Institute of Sports (NSNIS) Patiala Diploma Course in Football Coaching.
Tongper, a resident of the Mynthong locality of Jowai in West Jaintia Hills (WJH) district, is one among the seven students from the North East states who was selected to take up the diploma course.
SHILLONG, July 11: Shillong Lajong FC Youngsters were crowned Champions of the 8th Bodousa Cup 2016 after winning 2-0 against Assam State Electricity Board (ASEB) SC on Sunday in Tinsukia, Assam.
The Lajong youngsters remained undefeated throughout this tournament and conceded only two goals. The team coached by Alison Kharsyntiew played with Great Spirit and won the hearts of many in Assam.
The Reds who started the match as favourites after defeating defending Champions Oil India FC in the Semi Finals, played a good game today and pressed forward right from kick off.
TURA, July 10: Enthusiasts of Taekwondo and experts from Garo Hills have called for the sport to be made more accessible to the youth by encouraging it as a step for all round development of the mind and body.
The call comes in the wake of a brilliant performance by boys and girls of the Taekwondo Association of Garo Hills in the recently concluded international event in Bhutan. Over a dozen local boys and girls from the Garo Hills Taekwondo Association brought fame for the region at the Bhutan event bagging several gold and silver medals.
SHILLONG, June 16: Malki went down to Shillong Lajong juniors on Thursday at the JN stadium in the U18 Shillong Premier League bringing an end to the campaign of both teams in the tournament. Lajong juniors are now on 13 points in second position but will have to wait one more day as Nangkiew Irat are due to play their last game on Friday. If Nangkiew wins their last match, they will also be on 13 points and will automatically advance to the finals with the head to head advantage.
TURA, June 15: The three day Baghmara Futsal Challenge Cup kicked off on Tuesday at Baghmara playground with an aim to popularise 5-A-side football in Garo Hills.
The tournament conceptualized by ICFAI University Meghalaya was held for the first time in Tura last year.
After successfully launching the format of the game at Tura, the university in collaboration with Baghmara Sports Association and District Sports Office is organizing the tournament.
