SHILLONG, Aug 29: A felicitation ceremony of outstanding sportspersons from the State who have excelled at the National and Regional level competitions was held at Indoor Sports Hall, Polo Ground, J. N. Complex, Shillong on Tuesday.
Working President, Meghalaya State Olympics Association, John F. Kharshiing graced the programme as the Chief Guest, which was organized by the Department of Sports and Youth Affairs, Government of Meghalaya.

Shillong Lajong sign six foreign footballers

Shillong, Aug 28 (IANS): Shillong Lajong FC on Monday announced the signing of six foreign players ahead of the I-League football 2017-18 season.
For the new I-league season, the number of foreign players allowed to be fielded by each team in the starting 11 has been increased to five and teams can register up to six foreigners.

Zenith lay foundation for mini football ground at Babadam

TURA, Aug 20: Meghalaya sports and youth affairs minister Zenith Sangma on Saturday laid the foundation stone for the construction of a mini football stadium at Babadam about 28 km from here in West Garo Hills.
He was accompanied by forest and environment minsiter Clement Marak, North Tura MLA Noverfield Marak and a host of other dignitaries.
Speaking on the occasion, the sports minister said that the work for construction of the mini football stadium gallery and VIP rostrum will start as soon as monsoon season subsides.

Lajong U-12 to represent India in BRICS International Youth Football Tournament

SHILLONG, Aug 13: Shillong Lajong  Under-12 youth team will be participating in the very first edition of BRICS International Youth Football Tournament to be held in Putian, China on August 16, 2017. The games will be held at the Putian Sports Center and is hosted by the local government of Putian and the General Administration of Sport of Putian, operated by Fujian Aoxuan Football club and Quansheng International Sports Management Co. Ltd.
Shillong Lajong FC Academy will be the only team to represent India in the tournament.

Finale of Freedom Challenge Cup on Aug 15

TURA, Aug 13: The ongoing Freedom Fest will conclude with a grand finale on Tuesday afternoon with the final matches of the Freedom Challenge Cup and under – 15 Bhaichung Bhutia Champions Cup.
 Indian football legend Bhaichung Bhutia will witness the event and announce the grand launch of Bhaichung Bhutia Football Schools – a William Initiative, an academy that aims to foster football talents of Garo Hills.
