SHILLONG, Nov 28: Shillong Lajong Football Club earned full points in the round eight match of the I-League defeating off coloured Pailan Arrows 3-1 here at the JN Sports Complex on Wednesday. With this win now Lajong has got ten points from eight matches.
Lajong took an early lead before the tourists could feel the test of the turf and it was Sushil Kumar Singh who neatly headed home the aerial cross ball set by Jacob Lalrawngbawla from left flank into the box in the 3rd minute of the game.
It was the local lads who were in the dictating term in the field and in the 19th minute of the game Jacob Lalrawngbawla’s powerful shot re-bounced hitting the bar.
Had the shot been an inch down the lead would have been different.
In the 30th minute the effort of Friday Gbeneme, skipper Renedy Singh and Sushil Singh went in a vain as the last touch made by Sushil went for out.
It was only in the 40th minute of the game Pailan Arrows really made an effort in the goal mouth when Alwyn George set the ball for Prabir Das, whose shot went for out kissing the post.
At the end of the first half the score card was reading 1-0.
The second half was action filled with Lajong, enjoying the home turf, kept up its momentum and tired to extend its lead whereas Arrows, having had the taste of the turf now, tried to equalize the game.
But the Men in Red looked super – charged and in 49th minute, Lalchhuanmawia set the ball inside the 24 yard arena for Sushil, who made a few foot works and set the ball home for 2-0.
Soon after, in the 52nd minute of the game Friday Gbeneme gently touched the skipper Renedy Singh’s flag kick into the target and made the score card read 3-0.
However, in the 65th minute of the game midfielder D. Ganesh of Arrows taking a long range shot lobbed the ball over Lajong custodian Lalthuammawia Ralte and reduced the margin.
Lajong’s North Korean defender Minchol Son was later adjudged the man of the match for his outstanding performance in the defense line.
