One too many talents for Meghalaya

SHILLONG, Oct 15: Meghalaya has yet another feather to add to its wall of fame of those representing the country at an international level with the state’s ace kick boxer  Hame Shaniah Suiam beings selected to represent the country in the WAKO Senior and Masters World Championships to be organized in Budapest in Hungary from 3rd to 12th November 2017.
Suiam, who has 4 national medals to his credit, is the lone participant from Meghalaya besides 2 from Tripura and 5 from Sikkim to represent the country in the international sporting event. Apart from winning medals in the state and regional level, Suiam has bagged 4 national medals – 3 gold and 1 bronze.


It may be mentioned that this will be his third attempt to bring a medal for his country. In 2014, he represented India at the World Championship (Junior) in Italy but lost in the quarter finals to a polish fighter.
Later in 2015, he again represented the country in the senior world championship. This time around, Suiam is hopeful that he can earn a medal for his country.
“I am hopeful that I will be able to make my state, region and my country proud by winning a medal in the world championships,” Suiam said adding that he will be leaving India on Nov 2.
He was selected as one of the 58 members of the Indian squad during the national coaching camp held on October 1-8 whereby coaches and trainers from Russia and Italy were present.
