State’s first Open Futsal tourney to begin

SHILLONG, Sep 04: The first open ‘Futsal’ tournament will be organized by the Futsal Association of Meghalaya (FAM) to introduce the game in the state from September 28-30 at Indoor stadium, JN Complex, Polo.
The tournament is also being organized in collaboration with Futsal Association of India (FAI) supported by District Sports Promotion Society (DSPS), East Khasi Hills Shillong.

“Our objective by organizing this tournament is not only to produce Futsal players but also footballers and to achieve our objective we will form Units of the association at different districts so that we can reach up to the grass root level,” FAM president Dr BS Langbang said on Monday.
He said the association will have a roadmap to promote Futsal in the state for the benefit of the young kids and youths through the guidance and support of Futsal Association of India.
“We appeal to all stakeholders be it government, companies, club, sport associations, individuals etc to support us to promote this game,” he said.
Informing about the tournament, Langbang said that the tournament is open for all teams be it localities, institutions, clubs, organization, groups and such.
He said that a maximum of 32 teams will be registered and that registration will be be on a first come first serve basis.
Registration for participating teams will be from 5-18 September 2017, and forms can be obtained at Rubok Sports, Motphran, Trends shop No. 46, MUDA Police Bazar.
