Shillong, Jun 24: Mizoram survived some tense few moments to hold off Manipur for a 2-1 victory in the final of the boys’ division of the Assam Rifles CAPF Under-19 Football Talent Hunt Tournament at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium here on Saturday, while in the earlier game Manipur girls beat Meghalaya 1- 0 to emerge as champions.
Before the start of the match Director General of Assam Rifles, Lt Gen Shokin Chauhan encouraged both teams in a short speech. The Chief Guest for the occasion, His Excellencythe Governor of Mizoram, Lt Gen (retd) Nirbhay Sharma, commended Assam Rifles for their successful hosting of the tournament and wished the players the very best.
Shillong, June 23: Preparations are well underway for the final day of the Assam Rifles CAPF Under-19 Football Talent Hunt Tournament, the title matches of which will be held on Saturday.
Manipur and Meghalaya will contest the girls’ final at 8:00am, followed by the boys’ final between Manipur and Mizoram at 3:30pm, both at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Polo Grounds. All four teams are eager to get their hands on the stunning trophies crafted for the tournament, which have been named in honour of the late Dr Talimeran Ao, the North Eastern football legend who captained India in the 1948 Olympics.
Shillong, June 21: Mizoram and Manipur will meet in the boys’ final of the Assam Rifles APF Under-19 Football Talent Hunt Tournament on Saturday after both recorded victories in the semifinal round at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium here on Wednesday.
Mizoram had a tough fight against Meghalaya, but ultimately prevailed 1-0. Manipur, on the other hand, had an easier outing, defeating Tripura 4-0.
Shillong, Jun 20: Pynhun Shulet’s hat-trick of goals against Mizoram saw the Meghalaya girls’ team qualify at the top of Pool B on the sixth day of the Assam Rifles CAPF Under-19 Football Talent Hunt Tournament at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium here today. The earlier game saw Manipur become the first team in the competition to notch up consecutive victories after they beat Nagaland 5-0 in Pool A.
Shillong, June 17: Meghalaya bounced back from two goals down to snatch a 2-2 draw in their girls’ Pool B game against Tripura on the fourth day of the Assam Rifles CAPF Under-19 Football Talent Hunt Tournament at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium here on Saturday.
The other match of the day saw Nagaland’s girls whitewash Arunachal Pradesh 4-0 in Pool A.
The heavens opened around the start time of the 1:00pm match, but that did not stop Tripura’s Hena Debbarma and Anita Tancotla putting their side into a commanding position with goals in the eighth and 24th minutes respectively.
Tripura looked to continue their momentum in the second half, but after weathering some early attacking play, the rest of the match belonged to Meghalaya, who scored through their talismanic striker Pynhun Shulet.
