Ahead of assembly polls, Tripura militant outfit regrouping: Police

Agartala, May 16 (IANS): Ahead of the assembly elections, the banned militant outfit National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) is trying to regroup to create disturbances, a top state police official said here on Tuesday.
The NLFT recently appointed Subir Debbarma as its President replacing Biswamohan Debbarma, who been made advisor, a top police official said quoting an intelligence report.
The official, who was speaking on the condition of anonymity, said that the NLFT, based in Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) of southeast Bangladesh, is trying to regroup themselves to create troubles before the next year's assembly elections.

NH 62 in tatters even as NPP seeks repairs

TURA, May 16: The sad condition of the National Highway 62 came into focus once again with National People’s Party (NPP) seeking immediate repair to the dilapidated road. In a complaint to the Deputy Commissioner (DC) of South Garo Hills (SGH), Shella N Marak, the party sought immediate repairs to the road where even walking has become a hazardous task.
“The negligence for the SGH region by the current MUkul Sangma government is condemnable. The condition of the NH 62 is such that vehicular movement itself is not possible. Currently it takes about 5-6 hours to get to Baghmara from Tura, just about 105 kms away,” said Rakkam Sangma, an NPP leader from Rongara.

Chandabiang, Meyusapong win MLCU’s DJ Hunt Competition

SHILLONG, May 16: Chandabiang and Meyusapong won the DJ Hunt Competition organized by the Students’ Affairs Committee of the Martin Luther Christian University (MLCU) in the University campus here in Tuesday, which witnessed the participation of students from across different departments of the University.
The two winners of the competition will get the opportunity to perform at the Grand Finale of the University Week - ‘Aurora 2017’.

India, Bangladesh improving navigability in inland water protocol route

Kolkata, May 16 (IANS): India and Bangladesh have initiated a process to improve navigability of inland water transit protocol route between the two countries so that the former can connect river Ganga with the northeastern states, an official said here on Tuesday.
The two countries had agreed on the extension of Protocol on Inland Water Transit and Trade (PIWTT), signed in 1972.

Clement rues lack of knowledge on traditional instruments

SHILLONG, May 16: Forest and Environment Minister, Clement Marak has rued the lack of knowledge among the youth about traditional musical instruments even as he pointed out that these are now being replaced by modern and western musical instruments.
