SHILLONG, April 24: Jessica Ruth Cunville Marbaniang and Wanrida Pyngrope from Meghalaya are among several girls from the northeastern region who have curved out a niche of their own and this region in the world of fashion, recently. Jessica, a music student from Shillong, who had her beginning with Lakme Fashion Week and has featured well in the national media. She in fact got much space in the fashion world after attired in renowned fashion designer Tarun Tahiliani’s creation. She walked the ramp in Tahiliani’s creation at the Lakme Fashion Week, 2015 right after winning the coveted Sunsilk Mega Miss Northeast 2015. Industry experts branded her as “super cute” and “transforms into a sizzling diva” when she faces the camera and walks the ramp.

Midterm conference of EIZOC held in City

SHILLONG, April 24: The Eastern India Zonal Ophthalmic Congress (EIZOC) held its Mid Term Conference at Shillong on Sunday focusing on exchange of knowledge and information on clinical, educational and research aspects among its members and growth of ophthalmology and visual sciences in Eastern India. This Conference was organized by the EIZOC in collaboration with the All Meghalaya Ophthalmological Society (AMOS).

Manipur drivers launch strike against colleague's arrest

Imphal, April 17 (IANS): Drivers of inter-state public transport vans in Manipur launched an indefinite strike from midnight of Saturday, accusing Nagaland Police of arresting a fellow driver on April 12 without any reason.
The All Manipur Inter-state Winger and Cruiser Drivers Welfare Union launched the strike, saying driver Mohammad Nasir was arrested at the police check post at Lalmati in Nagaland on April 12.

Free medical camp on April 24

SHILLONG, Apr 17: A free medical camp will be organized by Bharat Sevashram Sangha (BSS), a worldwide philanthropic and charitable organization, at the Medical Unit of its Ashram campus at Jail Road on April 24 from 9 A.M. onwards. Dr MM Malakar, MD (Medicine) and Dr Alok Deb, (Gynecology & Obstetrics) will attend patients at the camp and BSS will supply medicines to patients on the basis of the duos diagnosis and treatment. Registration for the camp is open till April 22 at the BSS Medical Unit.

Militants kill two soldiers in Manipur

Imphal, April 14 (IANS): Two soldiers have been killed in separate attacks by militants in Manipur, officials said on Thursday. Two others are battling for their lives.
While Major Amit Deswal died in a gun battle with tribal militants in Tamenglong district, one of the three soldiers of Assam Rifles wounded in a blast has succumbed to injuries. He was identified as Vijendra Yadav.
Both deaths took place late on Wednesday. Major Deswal was from the 21 Special Force of Rashtriya Rifles and hailed from Haryana. Yadav was a resident of Rajasthan.
