Eight Manipuri tribal girls rescued from Yangon

Imphal, Sep 10 (IANS): The Indian Embassy in Yangon with the help of Myanmar police has rescued eight Manipuri tribal girls who were to be taken to Thailand and Singapore by some international human traffickers, an official said.
S. Suresh Babu, Additional Chief Secretary, Manipur in a statement said that the Indian government swung into action following an SOS to Manipur police from the eight girls who were lodged in a hotel near the central railway station, Yangon, before being taken away to Thailand and Singapore for flesh trade.
With this, the number of tribal girls rescued from the clutches of the sex traders in the past few weeks has increased to 15.

Bolbokgre School to get uplift after administration releases funds

TURA, Sep 10: In what may be very heartening news for many, an amount of close to Rs 1.5 lakhs has been sanctioned for the redevelopment of the Bolbokgre Government LP School.
Most areas of the school including the roof and rooms have been in dilapidated condition for more than 3 years now after a storm destroyed the building itself, while also taking off most part of the roof.

Garudachal Vidyapeeth celebrates 25 years through showcase of NE culture

TURA, Sep 10: The Garudachal Vidyapeeth celebrated 25 years of its inception through a showcase of various cultures of the North East at the small village of Belbari in South West Garo Hills (SWGH).
The event was organized by the Gandhi Smriti and Darshan Samity which held the three - day North East Cultural Symposium which ended on Sunday and was witnessed by a huge crowd from around the region.

RKM VP visits historical Laban House

SHILLONG, Sep 03: The Vice-President (VP) of Ramakrishna Math and Mission, Head Quarters,  Belur Math, Swami Gautamanandaji Maharaj visited the historical House at Laban where Swami Vivekananda stayed during his Shillong visit in 1901, on Tuesday last amidst a large congregation of devotees and followers. The new secretary of RKM, Swami Sarvabhutananda Maharaj also accpmpanied the VP along with other monks of the Ramakrishna Order.

WGH DC issues directives to all on road safety

SHILLONG, Aug 29: In compliance with the directives of the Supreme Court (SC) of India, the Deputy Commissioner of West Garo Hills (WGH) has issued directives and advisories to all departments and stakeholders for road safety measures as per the Action Plan prepared by the Transport Department, Government of Meghalaya on Road Safety and Security for the welfare of the pedestrians and commuters as well as general public.
