MPUF condemns JHADC, opposes proposed cement plant

SHILLONG, Nov 09: The Meghalaya Peoples’ United Front (MPUF) Friday condemned the Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC) for granting the No objection Certificate (NOC) to the Nilanchaal Cement Company which is proposing to set up its factory in East Jaintia hills district despite strong oppositions registered by different social organizations of the region.
“We strongly condemn the district council authority for granting such permission without taking into consideration the views and opinions of the different social organizations of the region,” MPUF president D Wanmi Laloo said in a press statement here.
He said, the organization is against setting up of cement factory by the company in the area which is already dominated by cement companies as this will further destroy not only the environment but the health conditions of the people living in these areas.

Imphal – Jiribam road repair to be completed by Dec 2013

IMPHAL, Nov 09: The road repairing work being carried out by Border Road Organization (BRO) along National Highway-37 (Imphal – Jiribam road) would be completed by December 2013, assured Lieutenant General S Ravi Shankar, PVSM, VSM, the Director General Border Roads (DGBR) on Friday.
Shankar visited the headquarters of 25 BRTF at Lamphelpat in Imphal on his way to Aizwal. He was received at the Imphal Airport by Brigadier Arun Joshi, Chief Engineer (Project) Sewak. During his brief stopover at Imphal, the DGBR reviewed various road development works, met all ranks of 25 BRTF and had an informal interaction with the media.

Selection for Boys Sports Company

SIP on ‘Water and Its Preservation’ held

Shillong, Nov 09: The office of the Sub Divisional Public Relations Officer, Sohra organized a one day Special Interactive Programme on the theme "Water and Its Preservation" on November 7 last at Laittyra Community Hall, Sohbar Ilaka.
The programme is a grassroot level awareness campaign involving direct interaction between community and government officials.

Nagaland's sends goodwill mission to Assam

GUWAHATI, Nov 09:  An eight-member team of Assam-Nagaland goodwill team called on Assam chief minister Tarun Gogoi here on Friday.
The members of the team said the people of Nagaland want solution to the long festering Assam-Nagaland border imbroglio amicably and peacefully outside the jurisdiction of the apex court. “The matter should be resolved outside the court with both sides arriving at a mutually agreed solution through give and take policy. Towards this end we have the blessings of our chief minister Neiphiu Rio and various organisations,” said Tali Longkunar.
