Car Rally to bring ASEAN countries closer to India: Gogoi

GUWAHATI, Nov 15: Assam chief minister Tarun Gogoi Thursday held discussions about the forthcoming ASEAN-India Car Rally 2012 with the visiting ambassadors and High Commissioners of the participating countries at his office conference room.
Gogoi apprised the visiting foreign dignitaries about the elaborate preparations of the flag off ceremony of the forthcoming Car Rally. Gogoi dwelt at length on the cultural affinity and geographical proximity of Assam and North Eastern States with the ASEAN countries.

3rd North East Region Agri Expo 2012 begins at Dimapur

Kohima, Nov 15: The third ‘North-East Agri Expo 2012’ has begun with progressive agriculture theme at Dimapur, Nagaland on Thursday.
The expo with regional events and global impact is organised by the Nagaland government and supported by the Union Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperation, Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) and North Eastern Council (NEC).
Inaugurating the event, the Governor of Nagaland, Nikhil Kumar stressed that though jhoom cultivation is widely prevalent among majority of farmers in Nagaland (70 percent), the only option is to utilize new technologies and information for agricultural upgradation in the State.

RCC Water reservoir inaugurated at Mawnei

Shillong, Nov 14: Local MLA and Chairman of Monitoring cum Implementation Committee of 22-Laban Constituency, Sanbor Shullai, on Tuesday inaugurated the RCC Water reservoir for public distribution cum public washing shed at Mawnei (Dhobighat), Lower Lumparing, in the presence of members of Dorbar Shnong, elder of the Greater Laban area, members of NGOs and the general public.
The programme was followed by distribution of blanket cum mosquito nets and bed cover item to 500 BPL families of different communities.
The RCC water reservoir cum public washing shed was built at an amount of Rs 2,00,000 under MLA’s SUWP development scheme. Also, blanket cum mosquito nets and bed cover items were purchased for Rs 2.5 lakh under MLA’s CMSUD fund.

KCP General Secretary reaches Imphal to chalk out roadmap for peace parleys

IMPHAL, Nov 13:  General Secretary of the banned Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP) Taibangnganba group, Taibangnganba arrived in Imphal on Tuesday to chart out a roadmap to begin peace parleys involving four KCP factions and the Government of India.
The KCP leader was brought by Superintendant of Police, Central Sajiwa Jail, Manipur, IK Muiva and Deputy Superintendant of Police, Imphal West, Md Rashid.

Mizo band to perform at Vietnam concert

AIZAWL, Nov 13: Mizoram based band Boomarang is set to rock Hanoi (Vietnam) on the night of November 17 at the India Festival organized by the Indian Chamber of Commerce in Vietnam (INCHAM). The concert by the rock band from Mizoram will take place exactly at 9 pm at the American Club, 19-21, Hai Ba Trung Street, Hanoi.
Besides the concert, the band will officially launch its debut album titled ‘Boomarang’, which will be released by Ambassador of India to Vietnam, Ranjit Rae. The event has been widely announced by various Vietnam newspapers and websites. The expectation is high in Hanoi as Boomarang has established itself as one of the best rock bands in India, and recently performed with the American band Korn in Gurgaon, India.
