TURA, Jan 12: More than 250 bikes rallied from the town of Baghmara in South Garo Hills to the coal town of Nongalbibra in support of independent MLA candidate from Rongara-Siju, Rophul S Marak on Thursday.
The bikers navigated the treacherous stretches of the National highway – 62 to show their support for Rophul for the upcoming MLA elections.
The pathetic road condition was seen on the clothes of the rallyists with most of them turning brown from the journey of close to 65 kms of possibly the worst highway of the country.
“South Garo Hills has been neglected for decades and the time has come to change the way the district develops in the coming future. We need wholesome development of the district as we have a lot of catching up to do,” said Rophul on the sidelines of the rally.
The rally ended at the Nongalbibra MeECL playground which was also the venue of the Song Kristan dance competition held yesterday and where the MLA was the chief guest.
“We need development in SGH and that is why we have come to support with a rally. We have suffered neglect through decades and will support anyone who helps in development of SGH,” said one of the rallyists on the sidelines of the event.
