TURA, Sep 10: The Garudachal Vidyapeeth celebrated 25 years of its inception through a showcase of various cultures of the North East at the small village of Belbari in South West Garo Hills (SWGH).
The event was organized by the Gandhi Smriti and Darshan Samity which held the three - day North East Cultural Symposium which ended on Sunday and was witnessed by a huge crowd from around the region.
The festival saw participants from seven states of the North East all of who showcase their local cultures to the huge gathering that came every day for the event. The chief guest for the program was MLA and Chief Whip, WD Sangma and saw the attendance of chairperson of the GHADC, Sadhiarani Sangma, MDC Nipendra Koch, BJP MDC, Bhupendra Hajong, Ajay Pareekh (organizational secretary, VHP) amongst others.
A total of 227 participants from the states of Meghalaya, Sikkim, Manipur, Mizoram, Nagaland, Tripura, Assam and Arunachal Pradesh took part in the 3 day event which started on Sep 8 and showcased the vast traditions of the North East.
The organizers of the program stated that the aim of the event was to promote local culture in a fast changing world where traditional practices were being lost.
“We were celebrating 25 years of the inception of the school and also wanted to promote local culture of tribes of the North East that is being lost. These traditions of our forefathers need to be carried forward to future generations and that is what we aimed to do through the symposium,” said one of the organizers on the sides of the program.
