GUWAHATI, Aug 06: A teacher of a private high school in Assam’s Hailakandi district was arrested by police under Section 8 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO) following few photographs going viral in social media in past couple of days showing the teacher hugging a girl inside a classroom.
Hailakandi district Superintendent of police Pranab Jyoti Goswami said that the teacher named Faizuddin Laskar was arrested under Section 8 of POCSO ACT, Section 192 of IPC, Section 67 of the IT Act after ascertaining that Faizuddin was the same person in the viral photographs.

The top police official said that the man has admitted that he had uploaded the photographs.
“The photographs were clicked by another girl of the same class. Faizuddin also admitted that while he had proposed to marry the girl, her parents had refused the proposal and fixed her marriage with another person. Following the refusal of his proposal, he had tried to use the photographs to break the marriage,” Goswami said.
“These photographs were taken about 10 months ago. The girl had appeared in the Class 10 examination last year and her parents are claiming that she is 18 yrs old. But we are investigating the matter as she was a child when she was sexually abused by her teacher,” the top Assam cop said.
Meanwhile, Assam education minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said the teacher has been arrested for his reprehensible act of exploiting children.
