TURA, Aug 08: The flood affected plain belt on Monday received assistance in the form of relief materials after Round Table India (RTI), Shillong in collaboration with the district administration, West Garo Hills (WGH) came forward to provide assistance after a meeting at DRDA conference hall in Tura.
Amit Singhania, Chairman of the Round Table India, Shillong informed that they contacted Deputy Commissioner Pravin Bakshi and it was under his guidance that they were able to convert their vision of assistance into reality.
He also expressed his gratitude to the National Board Round Table India for providing them the much needed monetary support for this noble gesture while also extending his gratitude to the Marwari Mahila Samiti Shillong, Akhil Bhartiya Mahila Samiti Shillong including friends and family members for their support and contribution.
The relief material comprised of 2000 kgs of chirwa (flattened rice), 40000 packets of ready to eat food materials, 500 cases of mineral water, 2000 pieces of towel, 2000 pieces of banyan, 500 sarees, child milk, 20 boxes of essential medicines and 100 cartons of clothing materials.
Two truckloads of relief materials were handed over to the Block Development Officer, Selsella C&RD Block, PR Sangma meant to be distributed to the flood affected victims of the district.
Round Table India (RTI) is a non-profit organization of young men and the motto is to provide educational infrastructure for the under privileged children and since 1977. RTI under FTE has built 5377 classrooms in 2172 schools with an outlay of Rs 180 crore impacting the lives of 60 lakh children.
“We are extremely happy at the gesture of the RTI for their support during a crisis in our district. We are sure that the relief materials will provide a huge relief to the people most affected by the current deluge,” said Bakshi.
