Election Commission moves closer towards total inclusion of voters

SHILLONG, Aug 11: In an effort towards the total inclusion of all eligible voters in Meghalaya, the state’s Election department has launched the first ever Electoral Literacy Club (ELC) to be set up in an institution for special learning.
The state’s Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Frederick Roy Kharkongor launched the programme at the Ferrando Speech and Hearing Centre, Umniuh Khwan in Ri Bhoi District on Friday.

NPP unit urges govt to upgrade key link road

SHILLONG, Aug 11: The Ri Bhoi district unit of the National People’s Party (NPP) has urged the Meghalaya Government to consider upgrading the key link road between Untrew and Jagi Road into a two lane road.
In a memorandum submitted to the Deputy Chief Minister, Prestone Tynsong who is also in-charge of the Public Works Department (PWD), NPP-RBD president Clement Mawlong said, “It is high time to not only give the existing deplorable road a facelift but the expansion of the same is the dire need of the hour.”

All-woman SWAT team ready to fight terrorists in Delhi

NEW DELHI, Aug 11 (IANS): The Delhi Police on Friday inducted an all-woman Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team, consisting of 36 commandos — the first-ever by any police force in India — for anti-terrorist operations.
Presiding over the induction ceremony, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh expressed happiness that the Delhi Police has raised an all-woman SWAT team and mentioned that “they will be deployed during the upcoming Independence Day celebrations”.
The elite women commandos, hailing from the north-eastern states, will be deployed at strategic locations for securing the Independence Day celebrations.

DPR for widening of Shillong – Dawki road submitted

Only 30 % NRC work in Assam done, no need to panic: Himanta

Agartala, Aug 10 (IANS): Preparation of Assam's National Register of Citizens (NRC) is a long-drawn-out process and that the government has completed only less than one-third work on it, senior Assam Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said here on Friday.
"By the time it is completed, the people's perception on it may change," said Sarma, the state's Health and Finance Minister.
