GUWAHATI, Jan 04: After arrest of an veteran Congress leader, police on Friday arrested six persons including two CRPF jawans for their alleged involvement in two separate rape cases in Assam.
Police arrested two CRPF jawans on Friday for allegedly raping a physically challenged woman in Assam’s Lakhimpur district.

US launches ‘check my VISA application status’ online for India

SHILLONG, Jan 04: The U.S. Department of State’s new system, CEAC Status Check, can now be accessed at https://ceac.state.gov/CEAC/ - “Check My Visa Application Status.”
This tool, which allows all visa applicants to verify 24/7 the status of their case online, offers better customer service to visa applicants and continued transparency in processing. This initiative follows other recent enhancements, including offsite fingerprinting and photography services and the expanded Interview Waiver Program.

Assam's village of magic now more of a tourist hotspot

Doctors to ‘cease-work’ for 24 hrs from Jan 11

SHILLONG, Jan 03: Irked at the inaction of the state government, doctors in the state on Thursday decided to stage a 24 hour ‘cease-work’ on January 11 – 12.
The decision was taken at the State Executive Committee meeting held recently.
The cease-work will start from 10 AM of January 11 to 10 AM of January 12.

Show-cause notice to SP EJH over alleged Contempt of Court

SHILLONG, Jan 03: Over the land dispute issue, the District Court of the Assistant Deputy Commissioner, Jowai has recently asked the Superintendent of Police (SP) of East Jaintia Hills (EJH) district to reply to the show-cause notice issued by the Court in view of the alleged Contempt of Court order by the police within February 13, 2013.
The order issued by the Court on December 19 last year has further asked the Officer In-charge of Khliehriat Police Station to submit the report with regards to the implementation of the orders which were issued earlier by the Court on the case within January 29, 2013.
