Poachers rampant in Kaziranga

GUWAHATI, Feb 17: Poachers have struck yet again in Kaziranga National Park killing a one horned rhinoceros and managed to flee with its horn.
The incident took place at Kaoimari area under the Bagori Forest Range on Saturday night being the ninth incident this year.

4 killed, 22 injured in Assam road mishap

GUWAHATI, Feb 17: 4 people were killed and 22 injured in a road mishap in Assam’s Sonitpur district on Sunday morning.
The incident took place at Dhenubhanga near Biswanath Chariali where a Mahindra Bolero pick – up van skidded off from the road and fell down in a deep gorge.

Air Force holds free medical camp at pomlum village

Shillong, Feb 17: Air Force Upper Shillong held free Medical Health Camp at Primary Health Centre Pomlum village on Saturday. The medical camp was conducted free of any cost under the aegis of Air Force Wives Welfare Association (Local) AFWWA (L) and Primary Health Centre Pomlum.
The medical camp was held to provide free medical facilities to the people living in and around Pomlum village located close to Eastern Air Command upper Shillong. Various medical facilities like free Dental check up, Eye and vision test and Ear, Nose and Throat check-up were provided.

GNLA issue threatening leaflets against candidate

SHILLONG, Feb 16: In a failed attempt, threatening pamphlets issued by Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA) to discourage voters to vote in favour of an independent candidate from Williamnagar constituency were immediately destroyed by the East Garo hills district administration in the wee hour of Saturday.
Sources informed that the GNLA had dropped the ‘leaflets’ in and around Williamnagar area with the intention to create fear psychosis amongst the voters of the area.

Strong binding force between Meghalaya and Congress: Antony

SHILLONG, Feb 16: Union Defence Minister, AK Antony on Saturday expressed confidence that the people of Meghalaya will vote for Congress being a secular party and it will be able to form the next government in the state.
“I am very confident that the Congress will form the next government in Meghalaya. I know Meghalaya, and the people here know very well that the Congress is the only national party which is secular, and which can keep this country together,” he said.
