CM demands transfer of Block I and II to Meghalaya

Shillong, April 11: Chief minister Dr Mukul Sangma has promised to ‘aggressively’ engage the Assam government in solving the vexed border dispute by ensuring the transfer of Block I & II areas under Karbi Anglong district of the neighboring state to Meghalaya.
The Chief Minister told the Assembly on Thursday that his government was seeking the transfer of the disputed blocks to Meghalaya on the basis of commonality and till such time the transfer takes place, the people living in the two areas will be included in all developmental endeavors of the state.

SHILLONG, April 11: Perpetrators involved in the killing of the two staffs at Williamnagar District Jail on February last should be booked, said HSPDP legislator from Nongkrem, Ardent Basaiawmoit on Thursday while moving a Call Attention Motion in Assembly and also expressed disappointment on the delay of releasing compensation to next of kin of the deceased.

HNLC questions Police for arresting surrendered cadre

Shillong, April 11: The Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) has termed the arrest of Banpyrkhat Langstieh, a former cadre who was relieved by the outfit on humanitarian grounds, as an attempt by the state police to create dissent among the members of the HNLC.
Reacting to a news item published in one of the Khasi dailies on the arrest and charge sheeting of Langstieh, HNLC clarified that Langstieh was sent home because of his deteriorating health.

MTC employees to get salary this month

Shillong, April 11: The pending salaries for employees of Meghalaya Transport Corporation (MTC) would be released by the end of this month.
Replying to a query in the Assembly on Thursday, State Transport Minister, HDR Lyngdoh said, “The pending salary from December 2012 to March 2013 is expected to be release by the end of this month.”
