‘Run for Democracy’ on National Voters Day

SHILLONG, Jan 11: The National Voters Day will be celebrated on the January 25 in all the Polling Stations, Sub – Divisional and District Headquarters of the state. A Run for Democracy will also be organized at Shillong by the office of the Chief Electoral Officer, Meghalaya on the said date.
The run which will be flagged off at 7 A.M will start from the Soso Tham Auditorium passing through Police Bazar, Motphran, Jeep Stand, GS Road, Stanley Roy Petrol Pump, Mawlai Nonglum, Mawlai Mawdatbaki, FCI, Mawroh, PTS, Golf Links, Polo Bazar, Fourth Furlong, MES, Rynjah, Khlieh Nongthymmai, St. Edmunds and will culminate at Soso Tham Auditorium.

Political parties scurry to finalize candidates for 2013 polls

Shillong, Jan 10: With the much anticipated list of Congress candidates for Meghalaya Assembly election 2013 declared, other political parties in state are now in a hurry to finalize their list of candidates too. Also, one is highly anticipating for the Election Commission of India (ECI) to declare the election dates soon for the three states that will go to polls in February – March, namely, Meghalaya, Nagaland and Tripura.

BJP to ‘help’ NPP, non – Congress candidates

BJP to take advantage of anti – Congress ‘mood’, infighting

Shillong, Jan 10: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Meghalaya is confident that it will win at least 6 – 7 seats in the upcoming Assembly elections, taking advantage of the anti – Congress ‘mood’ across the country and anti – incumbency in the party.
Meghalaya BJP General Secretary Dipayan Chakraborty Thursday said, “As of today, we have a very good chance due to the anti – Congress mood of people and infighting in Congress”.

Shillong, Jan 10: With the Election Commission of India (ECI) allowing Khun Hynniewtrep National Awakening Movement (KHNAM) to be retained as an party, the latter has decided to go all out in its political campaign for the Meghalaya Assembly polls 2013.
ECI has allowed KHNAM to be retained as an party after finding alleged manipulations on the part of former KHNAM president Paul Lyngdoh regarding the merger of his party with UDP.
