Police refutes KSU allegations, assures L&O maintenance during night blockade

SHILLONG, May 07: In the wake of night road blockade called by the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) starting from May 10 to May 11 from 9 PM to 5 AM, East Khasi Hills police on Tuesday assured that the law and order would be maintained and stressed that the two KSU members were arrested on proper evidence.
The night blockade called by the KSU is to pressurize the government to release their two leaders who have been arrested in connection with April 04 incident in which shops were vandalized at Laitumkhrah besides other areas.

Four Grade – IV qualified DSC candidates admitted to hospital

SHILLONG, May 07: Four protesters were on Tuesday shifted to the Shillong Civil Hospital when their health condition deteriorated after participating at the ongoing ‘indefinite hunger strike’ sponsored by the Association of the Qualified Grade-IV, 2011 East Khasi hills.
The hunger strike has been going for the last two days to protest against the adamant attitude of the state government to provide appointment to deprived qualified candidates.

Now JSU serves deadline to government

SHILLONG, May 07: It appears to be a deadline galore for the Meghalaya government as the Jaintia Students’ Union (JSU) has served 30-day deadline to the government as well as the seven legislators from Jaintia hills to meet their demand for up-gradation of the Jowai Civil Hospital, setting up of blood bank and making the Ialong Civil hospital functional.
Close on the heels of the expiry of the KSU deadline which has led the union to announce two days of road night blockade on May 10 and May 11 in East Khasi hill district, the JSU also has threatened to launch a series of agitation in Jaintia hills if their demands are not met within the stipulated time.

GNLA abducts manager

SHILLONG, May 07: Suspected cadres of the Garo Hills based militant outfit, the Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA) on Monday night abducted a manager of Mrong Enterprise from South Garo Hills district.
According to sources, the area commander Pangkam Sangma of GNLA has been involved in the kidnapping and the abducted person has been identified as Dipu Das.
