SHILLONG, Jan 11: Arrested Chairman of Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA), Champion R Sangma was on Friday granted bail by the Shillong Bench of Gauhati High Court even as the militant leader has expressed his resolve to contest the upcoming polls in state.
“The court has granted bail in two cases out of three,” Champion’s Counsel told reporters here.
SHILLONG, Jan 11: The Civil Society Women’s Organization (CSWO) said that it would filed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) against a medicine manufacturing unit following alleged violation of norms which according the organization is putting the lives of children at risk in the state.
“We would file a PIL seeking for immediate intervention of the court against and those involved in issuing license to it despite of knowing that it has failed to meet the standard prescribed by the concerned authorities,” CSWO president, Agnes Kharshiing told reporters here on Friday.
SHILLONG, Jan 11: The Justice (Rtd) SP Rajkhowa Commission probing into the sensational 2009 ‘Shillong-jailbreak’ on Friday finally submitted its report to the state government.
The report was submitted after examining the arguments from both sides including the Steering Committee Against Murder of Democracy (SCAMoD) and government counsels held on December last year.
Justice (Rtd) S P Rajkhowa who headed the commission appointed by the state government in 2010, submitted the report to the Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma, officials said.
Shillong, Jan 11: Theilin Phanbuh has been appointed as the Chairperson of the Meghalaya State Commission for Women (MSCW).
As per the Social welfare department’s notification No. SW(S) 125/90/Pt.II/488, dated January10, the Governor of Meghalaya has appointed Phanbuh as MSCW Chairperson with immediate effect until the expiry of the term of the present Commission.
Mentionably, the MSCW Chairperson was left vacant after Roshan Warjri resigned from the post to contest in Meghalaya General Election scheduled for February 23.
SHILLONG, Jan 11: The Meghalaya unit of Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) on Friday announced the second list of candidates to contest in the upcoming general elections slated for February 23.
Altogether 9 candidates have been declared in the second list.
