MeECL office picketing at Leshka from Jan 14

SHILLONG, Jan 12: 20 villages of War Jaintia in West Jaintia hills district have called for an indefinite office picketing of the Meghalaya Electricity Corporation Limited (MeECL) office at Leshka, Pdengshakhap under Amlarem Sub-division starting from January 14
 “The MeECL authority has failed to fulfill the different promises including the employment to local youth from the 20 villages besides failing to clear the compensation to the landowners which is pending for so many years,” president of Association of the 20 villages, Paul Pakyntein said.

Sohan casts doubts on ANVC’s intentions

SHILLONG, Jan 12: “Now, they are demanding Rs 5 crore from the government to run the Autonomous District Council (ADC) for one year, which I think will be a good opportunity for ANVC leaders to buy expensive vehicles and build palatial houses” said Sohan D. Shira, the Commander in Chief of the banned militant outfit GNLA, on ANVC and Government reaching a settlement for peace talk during the recently held tripartite meeting in Shillong on January 5 last.

GNLA extinguishes Jims Flame; Williamnagar District administration comes to rescue

SHILLONG, Jan 12: The only LPG Gas agency in Williamnagar M/s Jims Flame has been shut down for the past two weeks following demand note from the notorious Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA).
M/s Jims Flame is the only Gas agency to cater to LPG demand of Williamnagar and surround areas. It received an extortion note of Rs 25 lakhs from GNLA two weeks back. Thereafter, the manager of the Gas agency fled to Tura closing the Gas Agency putting the public at the receiving end.

UG exams will not be postponed for Election: NEHU VC

Shillong, Jan 12: With the dates of election declared for general election in Meghalaya, the students are in a state of confusion if their examination dates will be postponed.
As per the exam schedule released for undergraduate degree courses, the examinations begin on February 11.
Clearing confusion over the matter, North Eastern Hill University (NEHU) Vice Chancellor (VC), AN Rai informed that a meeting of Examination department is scheduled to be held next week in this regard. The picture for the examination schedule will be much clear only after this meeting, he added.
