NGOs serve Aug 29 deadline to Govt for ILP implementation

SHILLONG, Aug 16: The NGOs batting for introduction of the Inner Line Permit (ILP) in Meghalaya have given a deadline of August 29 to state government to set in motion the implementation of ILP or else they warned of intensive agitation immediately. The decision was taken at the public meeting held on Friday at Motphran here.

HNLC declares Aug 17 as ‘Black Day’ for Khasi States

SHILLONG, Aug 16: The proscribed outfit Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) has declared August 17 as the ‘Black Day’, citing that it was on this day in 1948 that the Instrument of Accession and Annexed Agreement (IoA&AA) was imposed by Indian Government on Khasi states under the then Governor General Chakravarti Rajagopalchari despite objection from ‘Syiems’ and ‘Durbar Hima’.

Shillong, Aug 16: Asserting that crucial issues such as the problem of illegal immigration, influx, long pending Inter-State boundary dispute with Assam, international border with Bangladesh will take time to resolve, Meghalaya Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma, on the occasion of 67th Independence Day of the nation on Thursday, said “the very fact these issues have been with us ever since the creation of Meghalaya as a new State suggests that these are not amenable to easy solution.”
