The incident took place at a petrol pump belonging to one Rophul Marak located at Nongalbibra under Rangara Siju constituency.

Camari village residents nab dacoit

SHILLONG, Jan 07: The residents of Camari village, West Garo Hills district on Saturday apprehended one dacoit while he was attempting to loot a house, police said.
According to the police, the accused has been identified as Anwar Hussain (40).

KSU to host Uranium Film Festival-Travelling India

SHILLONG, Jan 07: The KSU will host the Uranium Film Festival-Travelling India on January 10 and 11 at Hotel Majestic, Polo.
The films to be screened will focus on the harmful effect of uranium mining on the environment and human being. The men behind the scene include renowned film maker C Prakash and two documentary film makers from Germany.

Potatoes bring quick bucks for Imphal East village

IMPHAL, Jan 07: People in Eshikha village of Khundrakpam constituency in Imphal East district are now prospering from huge amount of money they have earned from large scale potato cultivation in their paddy fields in the post-harvesting season.
Ishikha village is located about 18 km from the state capital Imphal. Farmers from around 60 households in the hamlet are now growing potatoes in 45 hectare of paddy fields engaging in double cropping in the post-harvesting season enabling them to earn lakhs of rupees, said Naoroibam Kiran, a farmer of the village on Monday.

WGH administration orders magisterial inquiry into youth assaulted by police

SHILLONG, Jan 07: The West Garo Hills (WGH) district administration has ordered for a magisterial inquiry on the alleged atrocities of police against eight youths of A’Konggre village in Tura.
The order came following the complaints lodged by West Garo hills-based NGOs against the district Additional Superintendent of Police (Addl SP) and his team for assaulting the eight youths on January 5.
